Summary

Burkittsville Elementary School was rebuilt on the same location after a 1918 fire destroyed its short-lived predecessor. A flat roof was built over the school and decorative brick parapets added to the tops of the brick walls. After the school closed in 1968, the building was purchased by the Burkittsville Ruritan Club where meetings continue today. Annual Ruritan carnivals are held on the grounds.
