Summary

Steadman-Keenan Post 96 of the American Legion stands on the site of this old farmhouse, which belonged to Joseph Waltman, the owner of "Potomac Farm". After the battle of Gettysburg in 1863, the house served as headquarters for Major General Alfred Pleasanton, commander and chief of the cavalry corps of the Army of the Potomac. Confederate POWs were brought here for questioning. The American Legion bought the land in 1946 and later razed the old Waltman farmhouse to erect a new hall, which now stands on that spot.
