Summary

A montage of Blade-Times editor & publisher Henry (Cap) Rinker at work. Mr. Rinker operated the Brunswick-based newspaper from 1913-1958.

Mr. Rinker took over the Brunswick Herald newspaper from Edward C. Shafer in 1913 at the age of 17 and renamed it the Blade Times. Because of his youth, his father had to assume responsibility of ownership, but Cap never removed his father's name from the masthead. He published the paper for 45 years until 1958 when, due to failing health, he sold it to James Bryan.

According to Jim Bryan in Pete Maynard's 1990 series on "Newspapers in Brunswick" to mark the town's centennial, "Rinker was a very unusual man. He did everything at the paper until about 1955 when he had a heart attack. He did everything, except he did hire carriers to deliver the papers. He got the news together. Mostly he wrote the front page and he printed the paper in a small building behind his house, printing it 2 pages at a time."

Velva Cooper: The high school used to layout & print the school paper there. I doubt if they still do. I was Editor-in-Chief of the BHS Whistle in 1983. Newspaper Office run by Mr. Pete Maynard then.

Kim Myers: I remember Mr. and Mrs. Rinker on A Street. Nice people. A deer ran into their house back in the late 50's.

Sandi Black: My father owned the blade times during the 1960s. His name was James Larry Bryan
