Summary

Fred Moore, Jr. was the first child to receive the Jonas Salk polio vaccine at Brunswick Elementary School on April 21, 1954. The shot was administered by Brunswick's primary local physician at the time, Dr. Charles E. Pruitt.

All-time great teacher Georgia Hood and Principal E. Virginia (Patty) Wenner are looking on. Three registered nurses are also there. Mrs. Martin Blessing is the nurse in the middle, in white, just to the left of Dr. Pruitt. Nurse Valentine from the Frederick County Health Dept. is holding Freddie. The other nurses are unidentified.

Jacquelyn Ebersole: The nurse in white is Mrs. Blessing. She lived on Potomac street and went to First United Methodist Church. Her daughter was Marta Blessing. Can't remember her first name. Her sister-in-law was our beloved Edna Blessing, Sunday School teacher, MYF leader and hair dresser. She worked in the beauty shop in the Frances Scott Key Hote.

Judith Bowers Ware: Dr Pruitt was a good & kind DR. came to c me any home when I was young & as I got older. He delivered my brother at home.
