Summary
Working fire that started beneath Harrington's shoe repair shop and destroyed the Hovermale building on West Potomac Street across from the old firehouse on February 16, 1979.
The building was sentimental in town to those who remember elder railroaders sitting around telling stories at Harrington's and Mill's Confectionary next door where kids went to get sodas and candy before and after movies at the Imperial Theater.
This is really a dramatic photo. Look to the left and see the back of the building collapsing.

Building had a lot of history. It was built around 1910 by a man from Baltimore named Hovermale who had a pharmacy in the storefront that Mills later occupied. Before the shoe shop, there were a few grocery stores there--Hemp's and Roelke & Dixon are the 2 I know about...Peter
