Summary
This is a view of a roof fire at the Swank Building in the late 1920s. That storefront housed Swank's Hardware and the Harrington Shoe Repair business at the time and for years. It was razed in the early 1950s to make way for the present Potomac River Bridge.
Wenner's City Meat Market is pictured to the right of the bank. This was the original location of W.B. Wenner's store, which in 1930 moved up the street to a larger building, Bets Mills' first confectionery, on the corner of W. Potomac and N. Virginia Avenue. In addition to freshly killed meat, Bill Wenner always sold City Services gas, Hershey's Ice Cream and Coca Cola.
