Summary

Old Mason's Bowling Alley - Petersville Road. & West C Street in 1944. It is now a vacant lot. Up until the mid-1960s, you could still see pins among the debris after the building was torn down in the early Sixties when the new lanes were built on Souder Road.

Nancy Baker: My Dad Benny Harsh use to set pins in this bowling alley.

Jim Dixon: B.Penergraft, A.Grams, L. Wenner and myself was just a few that I can remember sitting pins up. On league nites Mud Brooks, Hot Dog Phillips would really make the pins fly had to get out of the way for them. Jim Schamaul operate the alleys for a guy who lived I think in Virginia. As pin setters we where paid 7 cents a game Penergraft and Wenner could make 20 or so dollars a week, they where good setters and fast. This was the year when Webb Pierce came out with his hit song (I'm in the jailhouse now) sure can remember playing that song when it was 5 cent a song 6 for a quarter.

Curt Webber: Lester Mason from Lovettsville I believe opened the alleys in the early 40's. He started handling pinball machines and pool tables in the late 40's. I took over the bowling when he decided to quit and ran the lanes in the early 50's until I moved to Hagerstown. Jim Schamel took over running the lane after that.
