Mrs. Jane Smith at her home on Jefferson View Farm in 1971 where she hosted a 106th birthday party for Mrs. Mary Pauline Brooks of Brunswick. Mrs. Brooks was a daughter of slaves that worked on this farm for prior owners in the days before emancipation. At the time, Mrs. Brooks was the oldest citizen of Maryland.
Mrs. Smith's 4-H girls from BHS helped staff the celebration. Her husband Charles Smith ran the farm and served as a Frederick County Commissioner.
