Anna Marie Miller Brookins: This was my home, I think we moved there about 1949 or 50. My family moved to Frederick in 1967. Wonderful place to grow up along the C&O Canal and the Potomac River. My dad and I would take nature walks and pick mushrooms, Dutchman's Britches and Blue Bells and cut our Christmas tree in the woods across the tracks.Dad had a lovely vegetable garden between the canal and river bottom. We went to sleep and woke up to the sound of the trains passing in front of the house.I attended 1st grade through 6th at the old Sandy Hook School, If anyone has pictures of the school I would love to see them posted. I am so happy to see how well preserved this historic Lock 31 is and hope to see the government re-open it for visitors some day!
