Summary
View of the War Corespondents Memorial at Gapland in the 1940s when it was a dirt road coming up from Burkittsville. According to Bill Van Gilder: "I’ve learned that mountains were bare of trees because the valley farmers used the wood for farm house fuel, cut from the mountain ‘tree lots' they owned."
The photo came to Bill from Vern Grams, who grew up in a long gone log cabin near the arch.
