Summary

To commemorate the opening of baseball season, let's flash back to May, 1959 when William Murphrey, Superintendent of the B&O, Baltimore Division threw out the 1st pitch before a game at the old Scheer Stadium where BHS football and other sports are played today. Billy Merriman, who was an outstanding pitcher on Brunswick high school and town teams, and employee of the school for years stands by. Sadly, Billy passed away in 2017.

Photo and clip below is from the old Blade-Times local newspaper.

Oh and Brunswick won this game 17-3.

Jim Phillips: Billy was one of my heroes growing up. I was so lucky to have him as my Babe Ruth coach for the Moose. Loved it when he would hit pop ups to the infield so high the ball would almost disappear.
