To the Hon Sammuel B. Hamilton I feel that its my duty to inform you that the grant to John L. Jordon for building a storeroom on the canal lock at Berlin is very objectionable giving to its giving him preference over all others. got.
Showing him an advantage & privilege that none other has
If I was not interested in the canal I would not feel at
liberty to write you on this occasion.

and expect to continue in the business for years.

a moment the consequence of giving Mr. Jordon the privilege of erecting a room on the lock. privileges.

I ask you
as the president of a Co. if it is not showing partiality to give the ground to Mr. Jordon to place a storeroom opposite any house as nearer to the canal than my private property reaches the canal? To give him all the privilege on the lock. Mr. Stone & Mr. Stake know the situation and know the consequence that would follow. to pay for my property where my house is.

But Mr. Jordon can
place on the lock without the expense of buying ground or privilege and I am interested with Jordon & others boating on the canal. you not think it injustice and objectionable?

would work, suppose the lock keeper would favor Mr. Jordons house, why if a boatman wanted to get anything from the lock keeper he could put him out of the lock and not give him time to get a few necessary articles.
