Super's Report Dec 14, 1855

For the information of the board and in justice to myself I deem the following statement with reference to the matter of John L. Jordons grant at Berlin necessary. In August last, I received an application from John L. Jordon for the right to put up a small building on the line side of the canal at Berlin.

To be used as a grocery and feed store (excluding

liquor) Being at the time very much engaged at the breach on the Antidam Division the matter was referred to Wm. McGregor the superintendent of the Monocacy Division who reported favorably upon the application. Upon which report I reported in favor of granting the application and the board confirmed the grant. At the october meeting it was presented to the board that this grant would interfere with the private rights of other parties owning property adjoining the canal and I was directed to go access the ground and make an accurate plat of the premises and report at the next meeting which was done.

From which it appears that if Mr Jordon

places his building at the upper or west end of the lock there would be no interference with the private rights of any parties as represented at the october meeting.

Other objections are now made

to which it is simply necessary to reply that Mr. Jordon has not as yet called upon me to pry upon the site for his building, and it is my intention when he does so to decide upon such a site as will not in any way affect any resident of the canal or those doing business upon it.
