Except for the period of military service, Donald Darr lived his entire life in Brunswick, giving freely of his time to community service. Donald was cofounder and charter member of the Brunswick Potomac Foundation and served as president for ten years. He was commander of the American Legion Post, and president of the BHS Alumni Association and the Lions Club. He served with the County Tourism Council and the Commission on Aging. A devoted leader in scouting and youth work, Donald E. Darr helped develop Camp Westmar, Maryland’s American Legion Camp. His estate went largely to local community causes and Camp Westmar.

EDWARD DONALD DARR, former Brunswick city clerk and one of the prinicipal organizers to the town's annual Potomac River Festival, died Sunday while playing the organ at his church's morning worship service. Darr, 67, served as city clerk from 1954 to 1967. He was the secretary and director of the Brunswick Senior Citizens Center and a member of the Frederick Tourism Council. He also operated a Brunswick florist business until his retirement in June 1976.

Prior to his collapse during a services at the First United Methodist Church, Darr had been ill for several weeks. Only last September, he resigned as president of the Brunswick Potomac Foundation. He had been the foundation's only president since its formation. Under his leadership, the town's 10-year-old annual August festival flourished and the Brunswick Museum was established. The museum serves as the foundation's headquarters.

A life-long Brunswick resident -- and graduate of Brunswick High School -- Darr served in the armed forces during WWII.

The last of his immediate family, Darr is survived by 11 first cousins, James F. McMurray and J. Russell McMurry, Brunswick; Joseph Kelley, Knoxville' Mary Margrabe, Frederick; Betty Lou D. Cavalier, Harpers Ferry, WV; Patrick Kelley, Boonsboro; Gwendolyn S. McCallum, and Melbourne D. Stewart, Silver Spring; Harold Sigafoose, Annapolis, Dr. James Sigafoose, Thomasville, Pa.; and Wayne Steward, Charlotte, NC. He was a newphew of Luther B. Darr, well-known Brunswick merchant, who recently died. He was a grandson fo the late Mr. and Mrs. T.A. Sigafoose and Mr. and Mrs. William Darr. His ancestors were among the earliest settlers of the Brunswick area.

Services were held at the First United Methodist Church, burial in Park Heights Cemetery; Feete Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
