Elizabeth Horine served as organist at Saint Paul&#039;s Lutheran Church in Burkittsville for many years. She was born near Burkittsville on January 25, 1899. Her parents were Baxter and Lola (Ahalt) Horine who owned a farm along Gapland Road east of Burkittsville, just before the road descends to cross Broad Run. Her sister, Mildred Horine Gordon, and her husband, Hubert Gordon, ran a general store on the square corner in Burkittsville which they took over from their uncle Martin Horine. Miss Elizabeth lived in an apartment in the building next to the store which was formerly the Burkittsville Female Seminary. She died at the Vindobona Nursing Home on November 23, 1986.<br />
