In 1945, partners Nat Winters and Irv Kolker bought the hardware store owned by Harry Feldman, which was located in the Hovermale Building across from the old fire hall on West Potomac Street. Known as People's Home & Auto, they later expanded to sell major appliances, bicycles, hardware, pots & pans, and auto parts. As a point of interest, our understanding is that Nat Winters and Irv Kolker were brought to town by Mr. Himan Werntz, who actually was a resident of Baltimore, but lived during the week in Brunswick. People's Furniture was expanded into the old Werntz store building across from the Y in the '70s (now the community garden)
