This is a rare photo, or maybe illustration, of the original People's National Bank building that stood at 115 W. Potomac Street.

In 1906, a group of businessmen, including W.B. Washington and J.D. Brown from Lovettsville, Frank L. Spitzer and J.P. Karn from Brunswick, and J. Lee Simmons from Adamstown, established Peoples National Bank. Initially, they rented space in the Red Men’s Hall before relocating to the former Savings Bank building on East Potomac Street in 1900. By 1909, the bank had become successful enough to purchase land on West Potomac Street from George M. Swank and John L. Jordan for a new two-story structure, which opened in 1910.

By 1928, however, the thriving People's Bank had outgrown this building, leading to the construction of a larger structure, which stands unoccupied today.
