Smoketown History (Brunswick, Md.) Some background on the Rotary members, who were prominent Brunswickians of the time in this photo:
•Henry Rinker ran the local newspaper, called the Herald
•Bill Beatty ran a meat market across from the YMCA on E. Potomac St.
•Harry Mace ran a furniture store in the building where King's Pizza now resides and served as mayor in the 1930s.
•Chauncy Nicodemus must've been the founder of the Nicodemus News Agency that Claude Porter later ran. •Father Burgess was rector of Grace Episcopal Church.
•Atlee Horine ran the family drug store where Book Crossing now is.
•Harry George Sr. ran the hardware store, which still stands on W. Potomac and Delaware St and a coalyard behind where Litten’s garage was on West Potomac Street.
•Abie Ellin was a tailor who sold clothing on 19 E. Potomac St and also offered dry cleaning and pressing.
•Ralph (Pickle) Manuel was husband of Mrs. Frances Manuel the schoolteacher.
•George P. Swank ran Swank’s Hardware in the building next to the former People’s Bank that was razed for the current Potomac River Bridge.
•Oscar Karn was trhe last member of the Karn family to run the lumber yard.
•Pres Orrison was a grocer in the brick building next to the old Reformed Church (now Beans in the Belfrey)

Ann Beacht: My grandfather, Lloyd E. Roelke, ran a market later at the location of Orrison's grocery. He owned the building and converted it to apartments after my father purchased the business and relocated at the Cincotta building where there had formerly been an Acme market.
