Mrs. Wenner&#039;s sister Beatrice, who later married BHS coach Jack Brady, is behind the cash reg...</p> <p><b>New page</b></p><div>Brunswick Business: Wenner&#039;s Hill Market<br /> <br /> Wenner&#039;s Hill Market <br /> Eleanor Wenner, 2nd from the left, in the original Wenner store on Maple Avenue in the 1930s. Mrs. Wenner&#039;s sister Beatrice, who later married BHS coach Jack Brady, is behind the cash register as was Wenner family custom. The men are Marshall Snoots (far left), an unknown elder gentleman and Johnny Gaither.<br /> <br /> This was William B. Wenner&#039;s first store in Brunswick, which he started in 1923 across from what was left of the CF Wenner Farm that was known as &quot;Wenner&#039;s Hill&quot;. He referred to this as &quot;the store on the hill&quot; or &quot;El&#039;s Store&quot; after he opened the City Meat Market in 2 different locations on West Potomac Street. The store sold fresh meat from the farm, as well as canned goods, cigarettes, chewing tobacco, baked goods and penny candy.<br /> <br /> Strong women like Tater Rosen and Mary Phillips with her husband Sam later managed the Wenner&#039;s Hill store for Mrs. Wenner, who was a business woman in her own right as she later acquired and operated the Log House &amp; Pic a Wenner Apartments in Ocean City, MD.
