New page

== Summary ==
This photo is from the 2003 Yearbook and shows the members of Wrestling Team.
When I first started teaching at BHS in the late 70s, there was no wrestling team at Brunswick. This remained true for much of my tenure at BHS and I don't remember when the sport made its first appearance or perhaps reappearance.
Most of the practices I saw occurred in the cafeteria with tables pushed aside and wrestling mats spread out on the floor. One of the problems wrestling had was competing for floor space in the gym during basketball season.
Although I never wrestled as a sport, I though the following passage from a website promoting high school wrestling did a nice job conveying the sport's positives - "It is a great sport because anybody can do it. In the sport, a person wrestles others that are the same weight as themselves; size is not an issue as it may be in a sport like football or basketball.
It also helps young people develop important qualities such as self esteem, sportsmanship, work ethic and leadership skills. Wrestling is the world’s oldest sport and teaches control, not violence. Wrestling develops agility, balance, reflexes and strength in every major muscle group and can dramatically improve one's ability to perform in other sports.
It will be interesting to see if FCPS will allow females to participate in wrestling, especially against male opponents, but perhaps that is already happening here or elsewhere ;=)!
Front Row (L to R) - Kyle Scott, Trey Coates, AJ Blumenthal, Terry Bartholomew, Dough Greenfield
