The Colonial Transportation map of 1770 reproduced by National Graphic shows two major North South routes. The coast route from Boston to Savannah through New Haven New York, Trenton, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Annapolis, Williamsburg, Norfolk, Edenton, Newborn, Georgetown and Charleston.
The Great Wagon road was from Trenton to Georgia through Harrisburg, Hagerstown, Winchester, Roanoke.
