REF.28
Berlin, Md. Jan 29, 1869
To the President and Directors of the Ches. & Ohio Canal Co. Gents; We the undersigned humbly pray your honorable body to reduce the rent of that piece of ground situated on the lock in this place and formerly in the occupance of John Slifer.
We simply ask that
you reduce it to the former rent before the war, namely, twelve dollars as we are assured that the high price now paid interferes with the prosperity of our village and we ask your assistance in regard to it. Joseph D. Waltman John Short John L. Jordon G. G. Fout
