REF.20

Pomona, Md.
Jan 14, 1856

To the Hon. The president & Directors of the Chesapeake & Ohio canal Co.

Gentlemen:

I respectfully ask that you will grant me the use of the water which flows around the Lock 30 at Berlin for propelling the machinery of a Saw Mill and Plaster Mill, which I purpose securing a site for and erecting near said lock and such reasonable terms as are usual in like cases. Every due precaution and care will be taken to keep the saw dust out of the canal

Respectfully Yours
