The original German siding is covered with brick-patterned composition siding, but the original two-room plan is generally intact, with doors on the north and south elevations. Note the spectators and cars up on the hill. You could just drive in, park and watch a ballgame, as the playing field seemed to sit down in a hole. He was rarely seen without his trademark pipe. Nininger was a great stock car racer and won Hagerstown Raceway track and Winchester "200" championships in 1974. Did he win any other championships? The brick structure occupied approximately one-fourth the area of the present church. Bricks from the mother church, St. Mark's, were used in the construction.
