Summary

Here is a map of Berlin that's a bit more detailed than the one we have for 1858. What's also different is the notation of "Barry PO". The reason for the "Barry" post office designation was to differentiate our Berlin from the town on the eastern shore, which is still known by that name.

Principal landowners in town then were J.L. Jordan and C.F. Wenner. Other longtime familiar family names are Himes and Sigafoose.

For reference, Second Street became Maryland Avenue and Third Street became Maple Avenue. Note the location of the original schoolhouse, which was in a wheatfield on the Wenner farm. Today there is a blue building on that spot, which is owned by the First Baptist Church on the corner of W. B Street and N. Maple Avenue.
