Alan Crowl 1944 - 2019

Alan Robert Crowl, 74, of Jefferson, MD, died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Frederick Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. He is now back in his Heavenly home joined by his beloved son, Rob.

He was the loving husband of Gloria J. Crowl, his wife of 54 years. They were married in Brunswick, MD, on August 1, 1964.

Born November 17, 1944 in Brunswick, he was the son of the late Robert Jewell Crowl and Geneva Elizabeth Lucas Crowl.

Alan graduated from Brunswick High School, Class of 1962. He was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Brunswick. He was also a member of the Brunswick Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 1136.

Alan began his career with the National Geographic Society, Washington DC following graduation. He retired from NGS in 1994, with over 30 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked for the NIH Animal Facility in Poolesville, MD as a security officer until 2008.

In the past he was involved in the MARVA Babe Ruth League in Brunswick, where he was manager of the YMCA baseball team for several years. He also was a Past President of the former Brunswick JAYCEES organization. His interests included hunting, especially on his property in Allegany County; fishing, crabbing, reading, gardening and spending time with his family. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, David Crowl and wife Michelle of Brunswick, MD; and daughter, Julie Polyniak and husband Chris of Knoxville, MD. He is survived by his eight grandchildren: Cody Crowl, Jason Crowl, Megan Crowl, Dylan Mangold, Madison Crowl, Dain and Daniel Polyniak; and a great grandson Colin Crowl.

He is also survived by a brother, Craig Crowl and wife Marcia of Brunswick; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Snoots of Brunswick; Carol Brown of Apex, NC; and a brother-in-law, Dennis Moore and wife Gloria of Brunswick; and his former daughters-in-law, Christal Crowl and Dottie Morgan. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Robert Scott Crowl in 2014; brothers-in-law, Fred A. Moore, Jr. and wife Janet, and Gary Snoots; and niece, Dana Moore Hawes.

The family will receive friends from 6-9pm on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 N. Maple Avenue, Brunswick, MD.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am on Friday, March 29th at the funeral home with the Reverend Katie Bishop officiating.

Inurnment will be held at Union Cemetery, Lovettsville, VA at the convenience of the family.
