Summary
The B&O Railroad and the C&O Canal Company both reached Berlin in 1834. The railroad employed a small section gang here and the village was a canal town relying upon the canal for commerce. That fact changed when the B&O Railroad 's decision to move its main yard operation here from Martinsburg, West Virginia.
