Summary

Here's a photo of the Camp Greentop dining room and recreation hall, just as many will remember it in the Fall of whatever was your 6th grade year in elementary school all around Frederick County. There were some ghost stories and it was cold in the mountains.

Here are some memories from Smoketown followers:

Kelly Leigh I went to Valley Elementary. In 1977, I remember our camp counselor Tim Fogle died in a jeep accident the week after we went. We did a fundraiser for him. He was from Middletown High. I remember Mrs Augenbaugh, our teacher, crying as she told us!

Eddie Gray I believe when I went in 6th grade, we were one of the last years to go overnight. Would have been in the mid 90s. I had a blast. Spent 3 days up there.

Vee Garnett I was a six grade teacher and I didn’t want to go my first year. Another teacher went & I covered her classes. The next year the principal told me I HAD to go. I became a believer. Before the summit at Camp David they fixed the cabins up and reporters stayed there. The shower in my cabin was divine. I remember relaxing in the canoe as the girls rowed and noticed everyone shouting and waving. We were headed for the falls! Good times.

Chris Ayres Houck Loved it! Remember playing find a counselor (hide and seek) and you had to physically bring them back to camp. We found Stanley King, he was a tall guy, but lots of fun. He laid down and we picked up his arms and feet and carried/dragged him back laughing all the way!!

Ronald Jacobs Our class got mistakenly skipped so we went in October-November we stayed in the cabins the first night but it was so cold we had to sleep in the mess hall. While we on a hike to Cunningham Falls one boy slipped and fell in the water, we went back so he could change his clothes and put them in the drawer under the bunk in the cabin. When we went home on Friday his clothes were frozen solid and wouldn't fit in his duffel bag. Now thats when you are having fun!
