Summary

Ernestine "Teeny" Phillips at her desk in the old Brunswick City Hall on A Street in the mid-1970s.

Mrs. Phillips was a highly dedicated public servant, who provided support for 5 mayors from James E. Cummings to Richard Goodrich from the 1950s until the 1990s. She handled calls from citizens needing city services after hours at her home on Petersville Road where she lived with her husband Red (Allen L. Phillips, Jr ) and their 3 sons. She always made sure to handle concerns and make arrangements to take care of any issue. When she underwent cancer treatment in the early 1980’s, Teeny missed very little work. According to her son Jim, she even returned to work after driving back and forth to Hagerstown for chemo or radiation treatments.

Jim Phillips: Mom processed the town employees paychecks so on payday she was the most important employee. If it snowed she had to be there. She used to say her street always had snow removed first so she could get to work. On occasion, she got a ride to work in the snowplow.
