Summary

This was a nice surprise to find in our mailbox from Paul Barr. It's a photo of famed Civil War photographer Mathew Brady directing his crew in Berlin in 1862, likely right before Antietem. Brady is the second man from the right. According to the National Archives, this is the only example of a photo of Brady’s team. Question for the community is where this photo was taken. Maybe river bottom? We've seen other photos of wagon trains above the canal. Skirmishes were fought in and around Brunswick as Confederate troops made their way across the river into Maryland. Before the Battle of South Mountain, there was fighting around the intersection of Petersville and Souder Roads. Hospital tents were erected on the Wenner Farm around the site of the Shopping Center and PNC Bank. (Photo credit National Portrait Gallery, a gift from Larry J. West)
