Summary
Rick Buracker It's a coal temple. They shoved coal cars to the top and unload them into steam engines. The track they used to get the coal cars to the top is missing must been getting ready to tear it down.
Reuben Moss Definitely during removal. After the steam shops closed in the mid 50s the ramp to the top of the tipple was removed but it was fairly well intact for several years from what I could tell in photos. Would have been 60s or early 70s but I don't know the exact date.
There were chutes on each side that would be positioned over the tender of a steam locomotive before the coal was dumped in from above. I was told they would have to get a running start to get the 2-3 hopper cars up the steep slope to the top...and then make a quick stop before reaching the end of the line at the top.
