Summary

Country music legend Jimmy Dean (left) at the York Fairgrounds in the 1960s. At this time, he had recently finished a national prime time variety show that aired on ABC from 1963-66.

According to Jim Dixon, Brunswick Fire Chief Sonny Cannon provided the sound system there for many years and a number of local fireman would go with Sonny to help set up the sound for the fair, as he did for several other county fairs, including Frederick.

Jimmy Dean played the Brunswick Fire Hall so often in the 1950s before he became nationally famous that they called a 1958 fire truck "the Jimmy Dean Pumper". Before he burst on the national scene, Dean hosted a TV show in Washington DC called "Town and Country Time" on WARL-AM, and with his Texas Wildcats became popular in the Mid-Atlantic region.
