Summary

Thanks to Sonny Cannon, Saturday night at the Brunswick Fire Hall swung in the 1950s and '60s. Guy Lombardo, Duke Ellington, the Count Basie Orchestra and then up & coming country acts, including Jimmy Dean and Patsy Cline, headlined bills.

Vicki Pennington: I remember Tommy Olden and I won a dance contest and went there too...there was a whole bunch of us there that day... I remember Butch Danner and Louise DeVoe but can't remember who the others were. Does anybody remember when Brenda Lee and Billy Grammer and Roni Stoneman were with Jimmy Dean's band?? I won the door prize that night. It was a lamp that one of the furniture stores donated. My Uncle Lonnie Cunningham said when I went up on stage to get it that my face was as red as the belt I had on.

John Brubaker:Anyone remember when Milt Grant , who had a small version of American Bandstand out of DC, would come to the firehall. Nancy Grams McBride and I won one of the contest and went to DC to be on television. Quite an experience for us.
