June Phillips Orrison passed peacefully on Saturday, April 30, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.

Born at home on July 28, 1929, in Brunswick, MD, she was the daughter of the late Allen Leon Phillips and the late Gertrude Grubb Phillips.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, Paul Lee Orrison, and her children PL (Leanne) Orrison of Boonsboro; Britt Allen (Lydia) Orrison of Frederick; and Christopher Claude Orrison of Macon, Georgia.

She was blessed with four grand children: Nastassia Orrison (Joe Reichel) of Waynesville, NC; Greg (Lauren) Orrison of Darnestown, MD; Lizzie (Aaron) MacGray of LaVale, MD and Dan (Filipa) Orrison of New York City, NY; and six great-grandchildren - Jake, Kitters, Summy, Rowan, Briony and Sweet Baby James.

Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including devoted nieces Marsha Sutfin of Canton, MI; Rhonda Phillips of Canton, GA; and cousin Dr. William Orrison of Las Vegas, NV

June was preceded in death by her siblings, Doris Phillips Wesley, Charlotte Colleen Moore, Ronald Nelson Phillips, Clarence Maurice (Hot Dog) Phillips and is survived by her brother Allen Leon Phillips.

June was a graduate of Brunswick High School in the class of 1946. She enjoyed playing basketball and was proud that she started the cheer leading squad in those years. After graduation, she was an active participant in the "Fabulous Forties" reunions held annually.

June and Paul were married on December 29, 1951, at the Reformed Church in Brunswick. As Paul was in the Air Force, the family was relocated to various parts of the country: Biloxi, MS; Machias and Dover-Foxcroft, ME; Holidaysburg, PA and Manassas, VA. June loved living in and meeting people in so many different places.

Later in life, June enjoyed traveling to London and Paris as well as to Austria, Germany, and Hawaii. She frequently visited son Chris at his home in Georgia.

While residing in Rosemont, MD, June and Paul raised three sons. Both parents were regularly involved in the boys' sports activities, and during the Brunswick Little League Maryland State Championship games of 1966, June served as a "den mother" to the team and Paul functioned as Manager. They were both avid Orioles fans, as well. In sports, as in their lives, June and Paul were quite a team together. They were regulars at the Friday night dinners held at the Moose Club.

June was an animal lover, particularly of dogs and birds. Her beloved canines were Chuff, Brutus, Georgia, and the current "Duke of Rosemont", Duke Orrison, who was retrieved from a rescue shelter. June may have rescued the dog but always stated that Duke had rescued HER.

As well as being involved with baseball, June served in other facets of the community. One of her treasured memories was of teaching Sunday School, along with her mother, at the First Baptist Church of Brunswick.

For many years June was involved extensively at the Railroad Museum. During that time she served as a Master Docent, sat on the Board of Directors and participated in various events in conjunction with the Historic Sites Consortium of Frederick County. She was manager of the museum store and a regular member of the Living History ensemble. Always ready to "roll up her sleeves", she organized work days to clean/refurbish the lower level of the museum which has since become the "Lee B. Smith Room". June would host a tour and operate the third floor train layout whenever visitors came during the weekdays when the facility was closed.

Promoting Railroad Days annually was a challenge June met with various ideas to involve the local and nearby communities. One well-remembered tactic was "Hide the Bandanna", with clues given in the local paper weekly and winners being awarded complimentary train tickets.

She assisted with exhibits like the "Weddings of the Century" show and organized the two quilt shows held in conjunction with Victorian Christmas in 1997 and 1998. From these two events she established the local quilt club "Merry Peep O'Day" group, which still meets monthly.

One of her most important contributions, however, was her dedication to the Brick History Walk. She implemented this idea and managed the ordering, cataloguing and maintenance of the walk over the years. This project raised considerable revenue for the elevator fund and is enjoyed by both locals and visitors as they walk by the Museum.

Family get-togethers were a favorite time for June. She especially enjoyed holding all of her great-grandchildren and would whisper life's secrets in their ears. June's grandchildren remember fondly making potato candy with her, climbing on her garage roof, filming ninja movies, and sneaking into the candy jar she would always keep filled for their visits.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends is planned for Saturday, May 14, 2016, from 2:00p - 6:00p with a remembrance and prayer time at 4:00p at the home of PL and Leanne Orrison, 9106 Golden Angel Court, Boonsboro, MD. Interment will be at the Park Heights Cemetery, Brunswick, MD, at a later date.

Services will be provided by John T. Williams Funeral Home, Brunswick, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent to Brunswick Little League in care of Drew Hawes, 241 East Mountain Road, Knoxville, MD 21758
