A memory from the 1960s. Mayor Jim Cummings swears in newly elected members of the town council, who were longtime public servants to our community and Frederick County at large. Raising their right hands were:

--Jess D. Orndorff, who succeeded Cummings as mayor, following Mayor Jim’s untimely death in 1966

--Nelly Roby, the first elected woman in Frederick County politics

--Bud Albert, who was the esteemed veteran incumbent on the council
