Summary

Two-term Mayor Harry R. Mace makes a long distance call from his office at the old City Hall. The convergence of telephone service in Brunswick from operator to direct-dial happened during his final term in May, 1938. Mayor Mace served from 1932 to 1938. A 1977 Brunswick Distinguished Citizen, Harry Mace came to Brunswick in 1908 to work in his cousin's furniture store on W. Potomac Street and later managed the business until his induction into the U.S. Army to serve in World War I. Following his service, he returned to continue the retail furniture business as Mace and Company until his death in 1954.
