Summary

We old timers remember these 2 buildings on Petersville Road as the pool hall (left) operated by Ed Payne and Shelley's Cleaners (right) owned and run by Shelley Dawson.

The pool hall is now a residence and Shelley's is the home of Braddock Mountain Outfitters. (November 2011)

NOTE: In 2019 it is the Brunswick Wrestling League Headquarters. The yellow house is still a resident.

Donna Poffinberger: Daddy, of course, was Shelley's Cleaners and Daddy and Uncle Jimmy operated Dawson's TV and Appliances out of the front of the cleaners. Worked many Saturday mornings at the cleaners. I can still see Daddy shoveling coal to run the boilers. I think Eddie Payne ran the pool hall for awhile and then maybe Charlie Reynolds for awhile?

Phil Lowery: Edward Payne owned the yellow building. He operated the pool hall and operated a Venetian blind business. Customers could have new blinds custom made, repaired, or cleaned. He would go out to customers homes and measure their windows to make the old metal blinds. Ed lived in one area of the building and Charlie Reynolds lived in the basement apartment and the upper floor was the pool hall. I believe Charlie Smith bought the building after Ed's death and made several apartments. I have not figured out where tenants in the apartment park. Ed used to park his vehicle in the front right of the building in front of the door where the air conditioner is in the window The building was built on the property lines on the right and back sides. I believe the space between Dawson's and pool hall is a street that was never opened. Property owners on B Street used the road between the buildings to park their cars in their back yards. The pool sharks that regularly played pool there. Ricky Dawson, Dave Dinges Sr., Robert Huffer, Ralph Smith are only a few of very talented pool players.
