Summary

This photo is from the Potomac Edison store across from JJ Newberry's in the early 1950s. Roscoe Rockwell was the manager of the local PE franchise pictured in the middle with the ladies. Phil Childs replaced Mr. Rockwell following his death in 1956.

According to Tom Watson, in addition to the store, Potomac Edison "had everything in town. They had line trucks, repair trucks and all the workmen."

Elaine Childs: Phil and I moved here in March 1956 after he became local manger for PE after Roscoe Rockwell" death. PE had a lot of appliances but he also had electrical concerns also, ie electric lines etc. I remember Kaplon dept. store, the Lace Store, two furniture stores, jewelry stores Lutman's paint store, Newberry"s and of course the great milk shakes at Watson's Drug store. Watson's was where the business men met for coffee and to chit chat every morning. And we also had four grocery stores in town. It was a great place to live. Oh, remember the old Y. As to the question if they sold appliances in the new building in New Addition yes they did and it was the same as it was in Brunswick except that they were able to keep the trucks and other equiptment there. The loft upstairs in the New Addition building was a great place to store Christmas toys until Christmas. When Phil and I arrived here in 1956 those who worked for PE were Yonne Dean, Doris Stewart, Harry Nicholson, Meryle Walker Clarence Love, Gene McKenize and Marie Spriggs. Later join by Ray Axline and Jim Nicholson.
