Summary

Record of watch inspections made for Supervisor Williams of the Cumberland Division of the B&O by S&N Katz in Brunswick. Standard railroad watch inspections were made mandatory in North America in 1893 in the wake of the Great Kipton Train Disaster of 1891. The accident happened because an engineer's watch stopped for four minutes before it began running again after he and the conductor had been given orders to let a fast mail pass them.
