Summary

A view of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Petersville from Shady Lane, long time home to a close-knit, predominantly African-American community in the 1960s and 1970s.

Myer Kaplon was a frequent visitor as he delighted in bringing candy and kosher food like unleavened bread to the children, whom he enjoyed photographing. He became close to the families chronicling life events. Among the families of Shady Lane were the Gilberts, Coopers, Scotts, Jacksons, Lipscombs, Kearns, Woods, Hendersons and Snoots.

If you have more information on the origins of Shady Lane, please let us know.
