Summary

This photo is from the 2000-01 BHS Yearbook which was dedicated to student Cyndi Geisinger who died in a tragic auto accident a few days before she was to graduate with her class. We assume that the natural order of things is that parents die before their children and teachers pass away before their students, but life often follows its own course and Cyndi's death was an unfortunate reminder of this stark truth. I've had students who died before they graduated due to an illness, but Cyndi's death was particularly hard to accept because I think the accident that killed her was preventable. Her death left a permanent hole in her parent's lives and that of her friends. For the young man whom was driving the car I imagine it is an incredibly heavy burden he carries for the rest of his life. Cyndi was a student in my class and I always found her to be a polite and cheerful person not only in her interactions with me but also with her fellow students. I had no doubt that her personality would have served her well in her life after high school. Her death was a tragedy and brought sorrow to many people. Yet I'd like to think we all might learn from her death these words of wisdom from Gandhi - "Live as if you were to die tomorrow, learn as if you were to live forever."
