Summary

A postcard showing the the first block of West Potomac Street looking East around 1949. Note Watson's Cut Rate on the right southeastern corner followed by J.J. Newberry's and the American Store (later known as the Acme) before it moved out to a more modern store on New Addition.

Note the parking on both sides of the street and the traffic light, which was then outside Kaplon’s Department Store and other businesses in the 100 block. On a Friday night after B&O payday, the downtown was bustling.

No matter how much you try to enlarge, you can’t read the signs on the telephone pole to the left in front of the old Shell station where Brunswick Citizen has its office today.
