always so beautiful, and gradually the idealistic youth turned thirty and fell back into the rut of materialistic living. Here we are two decades later and we still haven't found the answers to life's deepest questions. We continue the quest, but the songs we sing help us discover our inner feelings and cope with them. Keep singing!

That in 1936, annual high school Glee Club concerts with All-County Chorus began. That the BHS Alma Mater was written in 1933-34 as the result of a contest. There was a bottling works behind the middle of500 block West Potomac Street around 1930.

That there was once a set of wooden steps to help pedestrians go up Brickyard Hill (2nd Avenue at "D" Street).

BRUNSWICK HIGH SCHOOL ALMA MATER

That Mrs. (H. E.) Lillie Cooper was a fine tailor before 1900. She made the wedding suit of Mr. William Schnauffer, father of Bill, Pat, West, and Lisa. She had to make three jackets because two were stolen from the shop as soon as they were made.

When our high school days are over We will often sing Of the many happy hours Brunswick High School brings. Chorus:

That some people used every means they could to avoid paying the bridge toll. People coming to Brunswick would leave their horses on the Virginia side with feed and water. The bridge attendant watched the horses. It was all legal.

Brunswick High School, we will be Always true to thee, And no matter what we do We will honor you.

That at one time the toll was 10 cents for walkers, 25 cents for a man and a horse, and 50 cents for horse and buggy. Virginia people brought much business to Brunswick.

That a Greek, George Dilecto, had a restaurant and food in the area where Peoples Home Furnishers was just closed. That John Funk and the Potomac Club Orchestra were nationally known. They played at Mt. Vernon, New York, Philadelphia.

Do You Know ... There was a woman mayor in Brunswick before Mayor Fauntleroy. Women of the Moose took over the town. Virginia Anderson was mayor, Dot Burns was a councilman, and Nell Roby was Chief of Police. The Police did not function; if needed, the women called the Sheriff's Department at Frederick.

That Red Nickels and His Five Pennies, Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians, and Blue Diamonds have all played at dances in Brunswick City Park. That there was a nickelodeon in old Berlin before the one up town.

That some people referred to the B&O RR as the "Beans & Onions" or the "Beefsteak and Onions," while prouder folks called it the "Best & Only."

That Brunswick's stone quarry, operated by the city, was behind the Pumphouse.
