Summary

Here is a 1950s era Veterans Day Parade photo of a group of badged elementary school "patrolmen" marching down W. Potomac Street. In the cart the kids are pulling are "Mr. and Mrs. Safety".

We might be able to date the photo, according to Sharon Hebb Smith: I think the young lady in the very first picture is Janet Hawes who would have graduated in the class of 1962. (Confirmed by Kay Hebb Carter)

In the Sixties, patrolmen were usually 6th graders.

Brenda Peters They still have patrols, but not the white belts. Those white belts were a pain to keep white for inspection every Monday morning (demerit, otherwise). I was a patrol 1963-1964 school year (6th grade, MoCo)

Doris Kelley Barker I don’t know the kids but that is the Rice’s large house and then Dr. Watson’s house.

Randy George (This is) the beginning of the 400 Block of West Potomac Street at Dayton Avenue.
