Summary
Volunteer First Baptist Church group with Reverend Leonard Carmack in the late 1930s. These folks were instrumental in making the church's Vacation Bible School possible. According to Doris Kelley Barker, students came from various churches in town and curriculum lasted 2 weeks.
"There were about 105 kids that smiled because they taught us great crafts and the Bible. We marched into the Sanctuary, pledged the American Flag, the Christian Flag and our Bible. it was a great time. Some of these ladies didn’t teach but they provided us drinks, cupcakes, cookies...Mary Payne (our great organist & music director for over 50 years & would not accept any pay—she said it was her gift from God)".
