Summary

The entrance to Braddock Heights Amusement Park in maybe the 1930s, judging from the old cars? See the tower of the old sliding board, which existed until the l960s.

Wade Watson The road is the gravel drive that used to go in front of the skating rink. It seems the picture was taken from the corner of the building. It would have been over the right shoulder of whoever took the picture.

Tom Cashour Grandparents lived on the corner of Schley Ave at the base of the park. My dad managed the skating rink, worked the lighting for the shows at the mountain theater, and maintained the Braddock pool. I am blessed to have ridden the merry go round, the miniature train, slide down the big slide, roller skate, and look out from the tall tower at the top of the mountain. Many pleasant childhood memories from that park. Also there was a bowling alley in the basement of the skating rink that my Aunt Catherine worked resetting the pins. She just passed away this year and was 95 years young! She fortunately passed her vivid historic memories of living on the Heights onto me, my sister and cousins! I believe the park was created by the Potomac Edison Electric Company to promote the electric trolley that operated throughout Frederick County until 1959.

Joseph E. Shomaker 1940s and early '50s, my church Sunday School picnic was there every summer and they gave us so many tickets to ride the Merry go Round, Ponies, train. The big slide was free and the most fun. Arcade under the skating ring that took pennys. Also the swimming pool across the road. We looked forward to it every year and my father always churned a big freezer of ice cream and my mother took lots of food to share. The Merry go Round had rings you had chance to catch on each round. And they would put in a golden ring and if lucky enough to get it you got a free ride.

Doris Kelley Barker Joseph E. Shomaker Your sharing this is part of Brunswick people’s church picnics; we did catch the gold ring even though I was only 5’, and we loved everything you described—the best slide ever and even the hardwood one at Glen Echo could not compare with our tall, slippery slide.

Albert Nagy Our family lived in the park house from 1962 until 67-68 ,set pins in bowling alley under the skating rink, filled rings for merry go round (any one remember the white stuffed gorilla in the dance hall??)it was an amazing time Ollie and Kitty Roseberry were fantastic people great memories!!
