Summary
In 1907, a disagreement within the Locust Valley Church of God led Samuel Mentzer and his faction to break away and establish Mount Hope Church of God, completed in 1909. The original congregation lasted about a decade, and the church was used by traveling ministers until its abandonment in the late 1940s, when this photograph was taken.
The church was reconstructed between 1973 and 1974 and currently serves as the Locust Valley First Church of God.
Jody Brumage When the church was rebuilt in 1973/74, my grandfather Frank Taulton, put the roof on the rebuilt stone walls and set the belfry. He was born in Knoxville and built many homes throughout the Middletown and Pleasant Valleys. My grandfather set the cornerstone when the church was rededicated in April 21, 1974.
