Summary
To get the full effect of this excellent photo perspective, we removed the following copy on the photo caption from MDOT:
"This view from the bridge deck looks north over Brunswick and along Virginia Avenue. The bridge turned sharply to the right before reaching the railroad tracks south of town.
The D.C. Winebrenner & Son building to the right of the road functioned as a warehouse for the Frederick-based dry goods company. The building still stands today. Note the poor condition of the wood railing on this April 1932 photograph."
Some other observations from us:
1) The Lockhouse at C&O Canal lock 30 is to the left under the bridge.
2) Also to the left is a big house with porches on both levels at the corner of S. Virginia Avenue and Walnut Street, which has been long gone.
3) The wooden barrier at the foot of S. Virginia Avenue was later replaced by a brick wall.
4) You can see part of the mill on the right under the bridge.
Anything else stand out to you?
