(On September 14th, 1862, 12,800 U.S. soldiers under General William Franklin clashed with 2,100 Confederate soldiers under Brigadier General Howell Cobb at Crampton's Gap overlooking Burkittsville. By the end of the day, the union forces had captured the gap and 14 field hospitals had been established in Burkittsville for the over 1,100 wounded soldiers. Summary

On September 14th, 1862, 12,800 U.S. soldiers under General William Franklin clashed with 2,100 Confederate soldiers under Brigadier General Howell Cobb at Crampton's Gap overlooking Burkittsville.
