To the Hon. The president and Directors of the chesapeake & Canal Company.

Gentlemen: I respectfully ask that you will grant me the privilege of using the water which flows around Lock 30 (at Berlin) for propelling the machinery of a mill�or grinding Plaster, Limestone and other substances not prohibited by the charter of your company which I purpose securing a site for and erecting near lock on such reasonable terms as are usual in like cases.

Letter read from W. C. Hoffman requesting the use of water for power from the flume at lock no. 30 for sawing timber. After discussion the Board declined the application.

Letter was read about hauling stone from quarry and asking to reduce the tolls. Board declined.
